Erect Milk-Vetch is a plant 8-30 cm tall, appressed
hairy. Flowers are borne in globular clusters 1-1.5 cm across, carried
on stalks shorter than the pinnate leaves. Flower-cluster-stalks are
about 5-12 cm long, white and black velvet-hairy. Petals pale pinkish
to purple; standard elliptic, 7-9 x 4-5.5 mm; wings 6-8 mm; keel 5.5-7
mm. Vexillum is about 8-10 mm long. Wing and keel shorter than the
vexillum; keel about 5 to less than 7 mm long. Sepal-cup is 3.5-4 mm,
rather densely covered with appressed white hairs up to 1 mm and with
mostly shorter black hairs, sometimes with predominantly black hairs;
teeth 1-2 mm. Stems are caespitose, rising up, appressed velvet-hairy.
Leaves are imparipinnately compound, about 2.5-5.0 cm long, leaf-stalk
short; leaflets about 19-25, about 6-10 mm long, oblong, entire, blunt,
velvet-hairy, hairs appressed, white; stipules leaf-like, free,
triangular. Fruit is about 6-8 mm long, arcuate, white and black
velvet-hairy, about 6-8-seeded, stipe short. Erect Milk-Vetch is found
from Kashmir, to Nepal, Sikkim, Tibet, Bangladesh, at altitudes of
2100-5600 m. Flowering: April-September.
